Special Thanksgiving Day Edition

Special Thanksgiving Day Edition  19 October 2019

Hello Visitor,

On this day of Thanksgiving, we would like to thank all of you for your amazing contribution to Edu Fun in 2018 and the work that we do at Diepsloot Combined School.

Whether you gave of your time, money or were a cheerleader from near or far and liked or shared our Facebook posts or newsletters, we really appreciate your continued support.
In preparation for
Giving Tuesday we’d like to invite you to make Edu Fun your non-profit beneficiary of choice this Tuesday and are appealing to you to make a donation.

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that connects diverse groups of individuals, communities, and organizations around the world for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving.

We know that so many of you give graciously of your time and resources throughout the year, but if you are in a position to do so or encourage your friends, colleagues or employers to do the same, we would be most grateful.

Many companies need to spend money before the end of the year in order to use up their Corporate Social Investment (CSI) budgets for 2018 and we will gladly provide the requisite paper work to make this happen. (tax certificates, registration documents and BEE criteria).

In addition to the audacious goal of taking a few more steps to improving literacy in Africa as a whole, we have the more immediate goal of trying to accommodate ALL the Grade 2 and Grade 3 learners in 2019 (see details in the short proposal attached).

We estimate that we need Approx. R171 000 in total for 2019, coupled with our amazing “Army” of volunteers to ensure that all our learners have the necessary skills to thrive in Grade 4 and beyond.
Those of you who were involved with Edu Fun prior to 2016 or have been involved for a few years would know that the programme has evolved from supporting just over 100 learners to close on 300 leaners.
See the attached proposal/plan for 2019 and what sponsoring a learner will cover. It is estimated that the cost per learner will be as follows

  • R650  for each Grade 3 learner (this includes the Zoo trip, holiday programme and year end party)
  • R500 for each Grade 2 learner

The amounts listed above and in the breakdown attached covers all the expenses for stationery, food, gifts for the kids, administration of the special programmes  etc. However, every effort is always and will continue to be made to reduce the estimated amount of money needed to run the programme with in-kind donations as well.

Thank you for your contribution to the “Read For Africa” dream of helping improve literacy in Africa.
“A dream doesn’t become a reality through magic, it takes sweat, determination and hard work” – Colin Powell.
Thank you
