As the world prepares to celebrate Mandela Daythis coming week, we would like to invite you to participate in two significant activities on Wednesday 18 July 2018.
One that could take less than 67 seconds and the other involves volunteering for 67 minutes. Both of which will make a great impact and will be greatly appreciated as we all try to "Be the Legacy" on this all important day.
Wednesday is a Bonus Day on GlobalGivingwhich means that starting at 3:01 p.m. Joburg time, Edu Fun has the opportunity to have a portion of donated funds matched by GlobalGiving (while available matching funds last). In addition to your 67 minutes of service, a donation to Edu Fun is a wonderful way to honour Mandela's legacy and his passion for education. If you'd like to support our work, here is the link to our fundraising page: https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/teaching-africa-to-read/
If you do not have plans yet in terms of how you might spend your 67 minutes volunteering on Mandela Day, please join Read for Africa and St Peter's School at Sefikeng Primary from 8:30 to 9:37am doing buddy reading with our Grade 2 learners on Wednesday.
Sefikeng Primary is a similar school to Diepsloot Combined School, but a lot smaller and located just north of Lonehill on the Leeukop prison property. Many of the children who attend this school live in Diepsloot and other nearby townships.
We will meet outside the Pearl Harbour restaurant at the Lonehill Shopping Centre off Lonehill Boulevard at 8am. (Pearl Harbour is to the left of the Parking lot). We will then car pool to the school together.
All books/materials will be provided, however you may want to bring an old towel or blanket to sit on as we tend to find a sunny spot outside to sit with a group of children.
Please contact Jenny if you have any queries or if you would like to meet her on Wednesday morning. Email email@example.com or call or WhatsApp on
082 322 0608.
We look forward to spending part of Mandela Day with you if you are able to join us, however our usual Edu Fun lessons will resume on Monday 23 July 2018.
Thank you for your continued support of all our initiatives and for increasing our global network by sharing our news and needs with your friends and family all over the world.
Thank you too for helping us to "Teach Africa to Read". As echoed in the words of Mandela, we know that
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you
can use to change the world"
“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what
difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the
significance of the life we lead.” – Nelson Mandela
