Dates to Diarise for the Final Term of 2017

Hello Visitor,

Please note that there are no lessons at Diepsloot Combined School next week.

We will be starting again on Monday 9 October 2017 and will also be starting a Saturday Buddy Reader Programme on 14 October. See details below,  should you or any of your friends be interested in assisting with this.

Monday 9 October and Tuesday 10 October - Lessons resume

Saturday 14 October - Saturday Buddy Reader programme pilot to begin.  This programme will run for 6 consecutive Saturday mornings in October and November.

Monday 16, 23, 30 October and 6 November 2017 - lessons as usual

Tuesday 17, 24, 31 October and 7 November - lessons as usual

Monday 13 November - Edu Fun Grade 3 Christmas Party

Tuesday 14 November - Edu Fun Grade 2 Christmas Party


Deepa Rai, one of our Tuesday volunteers will be working with the school and Edu Fun to co-ordinate a Saturday Buddy Reading programme with a groups of Grade 3 learners at Diepsloot Combined School for the final term.

This is a wonderful opportunity for
  • The Grade 3 learners who are a bit behind with their reading to get a boost before the end of the year
  • People who have work or school commitments in the week to school get involved on a weekend
  • Current volunteers to involve their spouses and children in volunteer work
  • Reading Therapists in training to gain practical experience and meet their internship requirements whilst providing 1:1 reading instruction to someone who would not be able to afford private lessons  a real – win-win.
The  programme will start on Saturday 14 October at Diepsloot Combined School and run until Saturday 18 November 2017. (6 sessions until the end of year).

Times: 10am to 12pm.  

We will meet at Dainfern Valley Shopping Centre at 9:30am on Saturday 14 October and car pool to the school.

There will be a brief Buddy Reader workshop for new volunteers on the first Saturday.

We will be appealing to current volunteers to support us on Day 1 of the programme as you will be more familiar

Meghan and her team arranged another successful food distribution to the 14 house headed homes at DCS this week.
