Term 3 Lesson 5: Monday 28 August & Tuesday 29 August 2017

Newsletter 25 April 2019
Hello Visitor,

This week's newsletter includes

2)  Lesson details for Monday 28 August and Tuesday 29 August
3)  Wish List for FEP learners needing assistance

The Zoo trip has now been scheduled for Monday 11 SEPTEMBER 2017. This is a week earlier than we previously planned. The bus company we are using have offered us a 50% discount on the third bus if we can change the date .... so we have :-)

We will meet at the Zoo at 9:30am on Monday 11 September and will be finished by 12pm as the busses will be departing at 12pm as well.

Volunteers will be asked to pay their own entrance fee on the day. I will confirm the fee next week. We will also be providing a packed lunch for each child. If you have any ideas or contacts, please let me know so that we can keep costs as low as possible.

To keep costs down we are thinking of providing the following
  • 1 coke per child (if donated - request sent)
  • 1 orange per child (donation confirmed)
  • 1 yoghurt per child (need to look for a sponsor)
  • 1 treat (lollipop/fizzer bought from Makro unless sponsored)PLUS one peanut butter (AND JAM) sandwich per child made by volunteers.
Thank you to Meghan, Gillean, Sachi  Ogechi who have kindly offered to make 30 sandwiches each (4 loaves) of peanut butter and jam sandwiches for the Zoo trip.  Thank you to Chantelle Mathews - one of our Read For Africa volunteers who has also offered to make sandwiches even though she is not able to join us for the actual trip.

MONTHLY FOOD PANTRY distribution .... takes so place on the last Wednesday of the month. It was a week earlier this month and took place on  Wednesday.

Thanks to one of our Edu Fun Volunteer's family, Augusts food was fully paid for by one sponsor. Thank you Anette Axelsson and your parents - Elisabeth and Willy for facilitating this amazing donation for the 14 child-headed homes at DCS.

You can click here to view the Ngangifisa Facebook page and to see the photos from this week as well as other information about Meghan's great project.

General Needs - FEP students
Smart phones, laptops and toiletries are items that are needed by most students. It is difficult to get second hand lap tops as they are often destroyed to protect confidential data and software. If you're able to access working lap tops where the hard drives have been removed, we will still be able to use them as buying a hard drive is cheaper than buying a new lap top.

Practical Experience / Internships required
Our FEP students who are finalising their studies are in desperate need of practical experience and need to do an internship in order to meet the requirements of their degree or diploma.

Please share the information below as well as the CVs attached if you have any contacts who might be able to facilitate an internship for the following students.

Lolo an FEP student is completing a Diploma in Office Management and Technology and is needing 9 weeks of practical experience. His work integrated learning experience can be at any kind of company and he's available to start immediately, however he does attend classes on Mondays and Thursdays.  If you know of any firm that might take Lolo on for 9 weeks of practical experience, please let us know and we can forward his CV to you.

Gladwin is also an FEP student looking for an opportunity to complete an internship in Information Technology.
Specifications include: Minimum of 6 months internship in any IT related company specialising in Software Development.

See CV attached.

Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Thank you
