Holiday Buddy Reader, Sport and Art Programme - Volunteers needed 18 to 20 June 2019
We are seeking volunteer support for our upcoming Holiday Programme. Edu Fun, in partnership with Read For Africa and St Peter's School will run the annual Holiday Programme at Diepsloot Combined School (DCS) from 8:30am to 1pm daily on Tuesday 18 June, Wednesday 19 June and Thursday 20 June 2018.
A copy of the proposed daily programme for the 3 days is attached.
We are needing up to 50 volunteers each day to work with small groups of learners and assist with reading, art and sport.
Thank you to St Peter's for their continued support and for arranging for their Intern teachers to be available to assist us on these days.
The programme aims to help DCS learners in Grades 2 and 3 who are struggling with English literacy. By providing personalised support, we can make a tremendous impact on the students. As children can't focus on reading all day, they will also attend Art and Sport sessions. The week promises to be EDUcational and FUN!
We will meet daily at 8:30 a.m. at Piatto's in Dainfern Valley to carpool to the school.
Volunteers who cannot commit to all three days are welcome to come for one or two days. Volunteers are can bring their teenage children, friends, partners and others who would like to assist. We are able to verify community hours if required.
Younger children are welcome to join in and participate in the actual activities alongside the DCS learners in the art and sports classes and can also be buddy readers with the younger children.
Thank you to everyone for generously offering their time, donating some of the items on our wish list or giving cash donations towards some of the expenses.
The wish list below (and attached) has been updated due to more items being purchased by our supporters. Thank you to Radha, Jeanne and Dudu we have been able to cross of the balls, printer cartridges, some peanut butter, garbage bags, and tea and sugar for the volunteers during our breaks.
Pick n Pay Boskruin are once again kindly supplying us with 360 Oranges and 360 rolls for the week. We will then by the chicken viennas from them.
We still need to buy some of these items, so any cash donations would still be greatly appreciated.
Holiday Programme Wish List
The cost to attend the programme equates to ZAR300 per learner. We appreciate any support you may wish to offer. Cash donations can be transferred into our bank account, or you can follow the link below to pay by credit card.
Another useful way to support this programme is by giving a Pick n Pay voucher for R100 for example if you are in a position to do so. Pick n Pay Boskruin usually provide us will rolls and oranges for free (letter has been sent for repeat donation) and then we purchase Simply Chicken Sausages from them, so the vouchers will be useful.
