GlobalGiving and 2018 Holiday Programme Recap

Should your busy schedule rule out coming to the school, Edu Fun would appreciate any donations of books, stationery, craft materials, computer equipment, clothing or toys. Monetary donations are also gratefully received.
Edu Fun is an official South African NPO (registered number 069-772-NPO). We are also registered as a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO 930036948) and can issue tax deductible receipts. Furthermore, in June 2014, we successfully applied for a Beneficiary Analysis Certificate and were granted a rating of 100%, enabling corporate sponsors to score maximum B-BBEE points when giving a charitable donation to Edu Fun, making us the ideal partner for companies wishing to target the poorest communities in South Africa and channel their CSR investment into education.

Our organisers and volunteers give their time free of charge, so all money donated goes towards our worthwhile endeavours. Funds donated are used for teaching materials and school supplies; health checks and medical expenses; materials for mending torn uniforms; as well as educational and social activities, such as trips to the zoo and student graduations. We also have a further education fund for varsity students from Diepsloot.

There are so many way in which you can help us change children’s lives for the better...

We are always in need of donations to treat medical issues identified by our health screening programme. For instance, it costs around ZAR 750 to fund optometrist appointments and provide spectacles for each student with poor eyesight. Edu Fun also funds treatment for other medical expenses, such as trips to the health clinic, as well as providing special dietary food.

Donating clothes

Many of the children at Diepsloot Combined School have very few items of clothing besides their school uniform. Some don’t even possess underwear. So when there's a special outing for the children, we often have to supply clothing for them, such as beachwear for a seaside trip. We can always find good homes for garments other children have outgrown. Donations are passed on to staff in the school office where they’re sorted and distributed to the most needy families. Even adult clothes are gratefully received. Any items that cannot be used are sold and the proceeds are used to fund school projects.

Spread a little love on Monday mornings!

On Monday mornings during term time, you can also help ‘spread a little love’ by donating food for the children of Diepsloot Combined School. Regular volunteers make a really valuable contribution to the welfare of the students by simply making peanut butter sandwiches or buying bags of fresh fruit. These donations provide a filling start to the week, on average, for more than 300 of the 1,400 students attending the school. But we could always do with more, which is why you can also help by spreading the word!

The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. supply over 200 sandwiches and more than 100 apples on any given week and it would be great if others could supplement this. Click here to find out how we prepare the sandwiches

If you’d like to add your name to the list of sandwich volunteers, please contact Jenny on 082 322 0608 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
